Logo for Studio 8, Young Peoples Programme at IMMA

Drop-in anytime from 10.00am–5.00pm every Saturday
From 11 October—13 December 2008 & from 10 January—30 May 2009
(excluding Bank and Public Holiday weekends)
Studio 8 Open Day 10.00am–5.00pm 4 October 2008

What is Studio 8? Studio 8 is a space dedicated to young people, aged 15-18 years old, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). It is a space where you can think about, discuss and make art work, all in your own time.

Each Saturday, a different aspect of IMMA’s exhibitions and programmes is experienced and discussed. This allows an opportunity for dialogue and response which can be used creatively within the studio space later on.

It is a space for you to meet new people with similar interests, a space for you to relax and enjoy some time for yourself. It is an opportunity for you to see what IMMA does, to discuss your ideas and to create your own pieces of art work in an open, friendly environment.

Studio 8 is facilitated by artists and Mediators (IMMA’s gallery staff). It is free of charge and basic art materials are provided. No booking is required and there is no need to attend every week. Lynn McGrane will coordinate each Saturday’s workshop.

Studio 8 will host an Open Day 10.00am-5.00pm on Saturday 4 October 2008 for everyone; parents/guardians, teachers, youth workers, friends and of course, you. The Open Day will be an opportunity to meet the staff at IMMA, to view Studio 8 and to get an idea of what we have to offer.

FOCUS ON… PROGRAMME

The Focus On… Programme provides an introduction to IMMA for groups, such as youth groups, multi-cultural groups, groups of people with disabilities, groups of older people, etc, visiting the Museum for the first time. Through a combination of gallery visits, guided tours, workshops, talks and discussions, and studio visits, groups become familiar with the Museum’s resources and are encouraged to develop independent access to the Museum.

Museum Mediators (gallery staff) and artists from the Museum’s Artists’ Panel facilitate visits to the exhibitions, creative workshops and contact with artists in the studios. The exchange of skills and experience between artists, mediators, group leaders and participants exposure to artworks, and the opportunity to respond to those artworks form the core elements of the Focus On… Programme.

Groups are invited to choose from a range of options such as once-off guided tours or a series of tours and artist-led workshops in the Museum’s studios. If you and your group are interested in participating in the Focus On… Programme please download and fill in the following booking form and return to the Museum.
