VISIT THE IRISH MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (IMMA)
Throughout the school year, IMMA is free to visit for individuals and groups. Up to five exhibitions of modern and new art are open to the public. IMMA is situated on the historic grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, which include a formal garden, large meadows and artists’ studios and residence. IMMA is walking distance from both Kilmainham Gaol and the National Museum at Collins Barracks. Prior to a class visit, teachers may wish to visit an exhibition to check its relevance to the age or stage of development of their group. On school days, IMMA and its grounds are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10.00am and Wednesday from 10.30am. IMMA is open on Saturday from 10.00am and on Sunday from 12noon. The Museum closes each day at 5.30pm. IMMA’s galleries are closed on Mondays except on Bank Holidays.

BOOK A GUIDED VISIT TO AN IMMA EXHIBITION
You can book a 45 minute guided visit of an exhibition at IMMA for any primary level class. Guided visits for primary schools can be booked throughout the school year, Tuesday to Friday, usually starting at 11.45am, but some 10.00am slots may be free. Having reviewed our Child Protection Policy over the summer months we recommend that each group of 32 children are accompanied by 4 adults. This is to ensure that there are at least 2 adults per 15 children during the guided tour. Due to demand, you should request a guided visit at least three weeks in advance of the intended visit. Guided visits are free of charge.

Book a guided visit during the school year 2007/ 2008. To book telephone 01 612 9967/ 66 or email frontofhouse@imma.ie

IMMA PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAMME 2008/ 2009
The IMMA Primary School Programme explores themes from selected art works.  The programme includes one guided visit to IMMA for primary school children lasting 75 minutes.

Teachers are supported through a preview of the programme before the children visit, including: a set of exhibition notes; an introductory talk on the selected artworks; and an outline of suggested projects for the classroom that may complement the children’s experience at IMMA.

The children’s visit is led by IMMA’s gallery staff, the Mediators, and includes an experience for the children of some of the ideas or materials used in the exhibition.

Specific exhibition themes are relevant to particular age groups, so the programme is divided into three parts relevant to different ages at designated points in the school year. There are three phone lines open to apply for classes to participate in this programme.
