National Programme
> How to get involved
All National Programme exhibitions are formed and organised in partnership with local venues and groups who are encouraged to explore and develop a sense of ownership of the Museum’s Collection as a national resource. Access opportunities for the general public are central to the programme and partner organisations are encouraged to develop existing audiences as well as creating new audiences.
The programme operates at various levels in terms of the size, content and scope with a variety of local contacts and venues both formal and informal, which includes local authorities, art centers, colleges, hospitals, voluntary committees, community organizations and other groups. Through the National Programme, this process allows for many spaces to be opened up to house artworks such as Siopa ns BhFíodóirí, a supermarket in Dingle, Co Kerry and St Caimins Church, Mountshannon, Co Clare. By shifting the emphasis and balance away from traditional centres of art, this strengthens regional opportunities, promotes links and relationships and can act as a catalyst for new ideas and projects.
The range of projects varies greatly from curatorial to artists in residence. Partners for 2007 included the Galway Arts Centre, Galway; Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda; Iniscealtra Festival of the Arts, Mountshannon, and the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh. There where also a number of Education and Community programmes run in venues such as the Roscommon Arts Centre and Cavan County Museum. While in 2008 the programme includes The Picture is Still, Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny; a film making project with REHAB and the South Tipperary Arts Office, and Smidiríní, Áras Éanna, Inis Oírr.
